David Sutherland - biography

Wine writer and educator, wine retailer and wholesaler. marketer and sales executive - David Sutherland has experienced a lot of what the national and international wine industries have to offer and now he has put that passion and experience into the Border Wine Room.

David commenced his enthusiasm for wine during his formative years in the Torquay/Geelong area of Southern Victoria, where he and his family were keen students of the grape and amateur viticulturalists/winemakers, without spectactular success! Soon after graduating from university with an economics degree, David joined the Brown Brothers organisation in 1980. His subsequent experience in that family company covered many facets of wine producation, particularly in the area of sales and marketing. A six year stint in the UK during which he completed the Wine and Spirit Education Trust's Diploma of Wine qualification.

Upon returning to Australia, David ran the St Leonards Vineyard for Brown Brothers before managing the Elgins liquor retailing enterprise in Wodonga for a number of years. He then established hi own wine wholesaling business before turning his passion and experience into developing the concept which is now Albury's Border wine Room.
